Argumentative Essay

On May 31st 2011, there was a car accident which became a big controversy. The lead singer of a popular male singing group, Daesung, was involved in a car accident. The accident occured when a motorcycle rider banged into a street lamp and feel to the ground. A taxi driver found out about this and parked his car on the the roadside to call the ambulance. Just then, Daesung's car came and since he couldn't see the body on the street, he ran over it and bumped into the taxi as well. The motorcycle driver eventually died. Daesung had to pay some fine for negligence of driving. There were many controversies over this matter whether it was Daesung's fault or not. The death was not the fault of Daesung for several reasons.

First, there is no proof that Daesung killed the man. Even though the man was found dead, he could have died before. According to the police, there was about one and half minutes between the accident caused by the man himself(banging into a street lamp) and the accident caused by Daesung. However, the police could not determine whether the man was alive before Daesung hit him or not. Though there is a possibility that Daesung killed the man, there is a higher possibility that the death occured before Daesung's car ran into him. Therefore, Daesung may not have killed the man.

Second, Daesung stepped on the brake when he knew he was in an accident. However, the body and Daesung's car glided about 10 meters and it is doubtful if the really stepped on the brake or not. The police guessed that Daesung was so surprised he stepped on the wrong pedal.

There are many people who disagree with my idea. Those who disagree say that Daesung was speeding, which was the cause of his accident. In fact, he was riding in 80km/h when he was supposed to ride in 60km/h., and he was charged for that. However, this is not the cause for his accident. As I said before, the man could've been dead before Daesung's car even came.

Second, the opponents of this idea claim that Daesung was drunk. However, this is false. The police said that Daesung was not drunk, but the motorcycle driver, the dead man, was drunk. This shows that the deceased man had some fault as well.

According to the evidence, Daesung did not kill the motorcycle driver with his Audi. The man bumped into a street lamp before which could've killed him, and Daesung accidently stepped on the wrong pedal and caused him to crash in to the taxi. Also, Daesung was found to be speeding, but it wasn't a reason that the accident was his fault. In addition, the motorcycle driver was drunk, which also means it is not solely Daesung's fault that he died. Even though the case is now over, I felt sorry for both Daesung and the man who died. i am happy that Daesung apologized to the man's family and that he is back again.

Flash Fiction-Celebrity

Walking in the streets of New York, feeling happy, feeling great. At the sight of something, I scowl.

I am the manager of a beautiful actress. People envy and are jealous of me. Amanda Fox, beautiful and has lots of hit movies, is very famous over the world. And now, she is having a hard time since her scandal with Kevin. Kevin, I must say, is a legend who can't even be compared to Amanda. It is obvious Amanda is getting the blame even though Kevin apologized to our agency numerous times.

And right now, that troublesome woman is walking through the streets of the Big Apple in front of me. She must be out of her mind.

I could tell, she tried really hard to hide her identity. Wearing a comfortable pair of jeans and a blue hoodie, she didn't even put on make-up. Nothing but a bit of lotion. She also has on some big sunglasses and a black cap and has her hands in her pockets. Still, it is not enough to cover her up. Her perfect body line still shows an though she is wearing sneakers, she is still taller than any woman on the street. Her cap is not enough to cover up her red hair which was a trend for a while before her scandal.

"Why are you here? Go back home!" I whispered loudly.
"Just need some fresh air," she said in a relaxing way.

Just then, someone took out a big camera and started taking pictures. People are starting to notice who the woman is and started throwing things at her. I grunted, grabbed her hand, and took off.

People are chasing us like crazy. Both of us are puffing now. I turn a corner into a dark, narrow alley and I hear them going past us. I look at Amanda. She looks terrible with her tilted sunglasses and hair sticking out. I couldn't help but bursting out a laughing. A perfect actress, looking ugly in front of me. She starts laughing, too. I took her hand and got out of that alley. Even if she is a celebrity, she is human. We don't have to hide from the crowd.

Response Essay to Movie "Brave"

Friday night was a movie night!! Our class, class 19, and a bunch of other classes watched the movie, "Brave". It was Disney movie and although it was a movie for little children, I felt many things. I thought that adults should listen and respect children.

In the movie, princess Merida and her mother, queen Elinor had a conflict. Elinor had a fixed idea about princesses being polite and graceful. Also, Elinor wanted Merida to get married. However, Merida is different from Elinor. She liked riding on horses and shooting arrows, and does not want to get married. So a conflict took place.

I think Elinor should have respected Merida. She should have thought carefully about her daughter's personality and passion. Elinor thought inside the box and didn't even think about leaving Merida alone. Princesses do not always have to pursue perfection.

The conflict between Merida and Elinor became more serious so that Merida ran away. She arrived at the magical forest and followed a path to change her fate. She met a witch and got a magical cake from her. Elinor ate it but she changed into a bear!!

However, I don't think it was Merida's fault that Elinor turned into a bear. Merida just wanted to make Elinor listen to her and she didn't know eating that cake would cause a problem. She was just too young and un-experienced.

If Elinor respected Merida's opinion about being a princess and getting married, Merida wouldn't have torn the tapestry and Elinor wouldn't have turned into a bear. Also, if they listened to each other, the conflict between them wouldn't have become that serious. Although Merida repented her acts and part of it was her fault, Merida and Elinor didn't solve their problem in the best way.

Through the complicated and hard conflict between Merida and Elinor, I think those two became more mature. I hope they learned to respect and listen to other's ideas. This movie may talk about love between a mother and a daughter, deep inside, it has the moral that people should respect others, even when it comes to adults and children.

Ode to my Smart Phone

Dear Smart Phone..

I hope you remember how we met, because I do remember our first meeting. It was a cold and frightful January but I was eager to you. I finally met you at the phone shop, how delightful I was to see you! I hugged you warmly in my arms and took you to my room.

I played with you until late at night but I was never tired. I tucked you in bed tightly with your charger until tomorrow morning. I enjoyed these moments day by day. I was excited and happy and proud of you until I came to camp.
I missed you every evening when you had to go away. My hands are lonely and my mind is bored when you are not with me. How happy I am every morning to meet you before breakfast! I skip, I run, I dance with you until you leave again.
Don't drop tears, my old little phone, I know that you are slow. But I will use you until the end before you're too aged to use. It's been a year since we met and I hope for another fun year! Just don't stop walking in middle of games or else my scores are going back to zero. I'll see you after writing class and I hope you're waiting for me too!

Sincerely, Jiwoo
